The age old study of the meaning and symbolism of flowers is known as Floriology.
Flowers have been thought to have meanings since ancient Egypt, but floriology as an art form was popularised in the 1840s by Queen Victoria. During her 60-year reign, 400 flower dictionaries were written and children even studied the subject in school.
Today the gentle art of floriology, once the exclusive realm of finishing school graduates and society matrons, is making a welcome return.
